Fethiye 12 Islands Boat Trip: Bays, Swim Stops and Boat Choice
Updated October 9, 2026 · 7 min read
The short answer. The 12 Islands boat tour with lunch and hotel pickup is listed at €35 per person and seven to eight hours. Choose it for an easy full day of swimming in the Gulf of Fethiye. Do not choose it because you expect a checklist of exactly 12 separate island landings.
“12 Islands” is a route name
The regional name “12 Islands” is commonly used for a cluster of places such as Yassıca Islands, Hamam Bay, Tersane Island, Göbün Bay and Göcek Island. Day boats select bays according to weather, harbour traffic and the boat’s programme. Many stops are for swimming at anchor, not walking ashore.
Read the advertised highlights, but treat the skipper’s safe route as final. If one named island is essential, ask the operator whether it is a regular landing or merely part of the sailing area. The value of this day is the sheltered gulf, wooded shores and repeated water time, not collecting 12 names.
What the listed trip provides
The selected tour states lunch, hotel pickup and a duration of seven to eight hours. Check whether your hotel lies inside the pickup zone and where you return. Travellers staying outside central Fethiye, for example in Ölüdeniz, may spend additional time on the road.
Lunch is served aboard. Drinks, snacks and equipment can be extra unless your option says otherwise. Ask about vegetarian or allergy requirements before the day. The €35 starting price is for the listed option and date availability; it is not a universal harbour price.
Choosing the boat matters more than counting islands
Large double-deck boats usually offer more deck space, shade and a social atmosphere. They can also carry more passengers, use music and need longer for everyone to enter the water. Smaller sailing boats feel quieter and may reach compact bays more gracefully, but can have less shade, fewer toilets and a higher price.
Before booking, ask about passenger capacity, shaded seating, toilet access, the ladder and music. Photographs show a boat type, but operators sometimes substitute vessels. Anyone with limited mobility should request a description of the actual boarding gap and steps and ask for confirmation shortly before travel.
Compare current choices on our Fethiye boat trips page. The Butterfly Valley boat trip is a different coast and a longer itinerary; it is not simply another version of the same island route.
Swim stops and non-swimmers
Most entries are by ladder into water too deep to stand. Ask whether flotation aids are available and stay within the crew’s marked area. A confident pool swimmer may still find open water, boat movement and depth unfamiliar.
Bring a towel, non-slip footwear, a layer for the return and a dry pouch. Sun reflects off the water even under an awning. For personal advice on seasickness or sun exposure, ask a pharmacist or doctor rather than relying on a tour article.
When the trip disappoints
The route disappoints travellers who expect historical guiding at every island, guaranteed shore time or a silent yacht. Seven to eight hours is also a long commitment if you only want one swim. A private tour costs more but can make sense for a group wanting control over pace and music; see our private tour options.
Weather can shorten or alter the programme without making the day unsafe or worthless. The gulf is relatively sheltered, but wind still determines comfortable anchorages. Keep evening plans loose because harbour return and hotel drop-off can take time.
Our recommendation
For most first-time visitors, the 12 Islands boat tour with lunch and hotel pickup offers the clearest balance of price, transfers and a full day on the gulf. Choose a smaller sailing boat when quiet and space per passenger matter more than the lowest starting price.
