Saklıkent from Fethiye: Jeep Safari or Your Own Day — What Does the Tour Take Off Your Hands?
Updated October 17, 2026 · 5 min read
For most visitors, book the tour: the Saklıkent and Gizlikent Waterfall Jeep Safari Tour, including lunch costs from €26.37, has 4.8 stars from 133 reviews and states hotel pickup and drop-off. The day is two stops and a lunch spread over eight hours; the tour’s real value is that someone else handles the road, the timing and the food. Going alone makes sense only if you drive and want to choose your own hours.
What the safari arranges
The booking page of that tour lays out the day: an open-top Land Rover ride on forest tracks with water fights, a walk of about 30 minutes to Gizlikent Waterfall, a buffet lunch with chicken, trout or an omelette for vegetarians, then about 90 minutes of walking in Saklıkent Canyon and a mud bath at the end. A photographer works through the day; the pictures are sold afterwards.
That order is the point. Waterfall, lunch, canyon and mud are in a sequence someone has already timed, and the same vehicle takes you back to the hotel.

Costs that stay extra either way
A tour does not make the canyon free. The same booking page lists, in lira, an entrance fee of 250 TL with a student discount, rafting and zip line at 600 TL each, water guns at 300 TL, canyon shoes at 400 TL and drinks. The cheaper Full-Day Jeep Tour with Saklikent Visit & Lunch puts the canyon entry among its extras too. There the entry is listed at +€2. The two quote it differently, so confirm the current amount and bring cash.
One reviewer thought the water guns should have been provided; another found the river rafting freezing and still worth it. If you go on your own, you pay the same fees and add the transport.
What “on your own” means in practice
None of the listings describes a public bus or a taxi price to Saklıkent, so we cannot give you a timetable or a fare, and we will not guess one. The documented independent route is a rental car; we wrote it up in our Tlos and Saklıkent road trip. If you plan to drive, compare cars for Fethiye and check excess, deposit and fuel policy with the supplier.
What you gain is control: you choose how long to stay at Tlos or in the canyon. What you give up is lunch, the guide, the hotel transfer and the insurance named on the booking pages.
Who the safari is not for
The booking page of the €26.37 tour lists pregnant women, people with mobility impairments, wheelchair users, people prone to motion sickness, babies under one year and people over 95 as unsuitable. One reviewer called the water fight “quite violent” and not for young children. If any of this applies, ask the operator before you pay.
Our recommendation
Book the Saklıkent and Gizlikent Waterfall Jeep Safari Tour, including lunch: it has the highest rating of the group and the clearest programme. If price decides, the Full-Day Jeep Tour with Saklikent Visit & Lunch from €15 (4.4 stars from 76 reviews) is the cheaper way in. Drive yourself only if the canyon is not your main reason for the day.
